Does your place of worship want to become more welcoming and supportive of autistic individuals and others with sensory needs? Space to Belong may be able to help!
Space to Belong is an Autism Faith Network initiative that helps places of worship create more sensory-friendly spaces. These spaces can provide a quiet, comfortable place for autistic individuals who may become overwhelmed by the sights, sounds, or other sensory experiences of a worship service.
Our goal is simple: to help places of worship create spaces where everyone feels welcome and has a place to belong.
What Types of Sensory Items Are Available?
Depending on available funding and the needs of participating faith communities, selected places of worship may be able to choose from a variety of sensory items, such as:
- Fidget toys
- Noise-reducing headphones
- Weighted blankets
- Calming tools
- Sensory tents
- Books
- Sound machines
- Bean bags
- Projector lamps
- And more!
Available items may vary from year to year.
