There are many things that you can do to educate your congregation about autism. Here’s a few ideas to get you started!
- Share information about autism during the announcements or sermon.
- Teach about autism in children’s church and leadership meetings.
- Put up a display table or bulletin board with information about autism and local resources.
- Invite a person with autism to share their story with the congregation.
- Reach out to persons with autism and their families. Ask them how their needs can be better met at church.
- Do a service project with an organization that provides assistance to persons with autism.
- Open a sensory room and/or start a special needs ministry.
We have even more ideas for those that join the Autism Faith Network! You are welcome to choose any activity that fits the needs of your congregation, as long as it promotes autism awareness, acceptance and inclusion!
